City woman robbed on Kanawha Boulevard

A Charleston woman was the victim of an aggravated robbery duringthe weekend, police reported.

Marilyn Harris, 40, told police she was walking toward the EastEnd near the 900 block of Kanawha Boulevard about 1:30 p.m. Fridaywhen a man approached her and began talking to her.The suspect asked Harris for a cigarette and some change, said Lt.Jerry Pauley of the Charleston Police Department. After grabbing apack of cigarettes and some money from Harris, the thief pushed herdown a set of concrete steps near the bank of the Kanawha River,Pauley said.Harris was transported to Charleston Area Medical Center's GeneralDivision, where she was treated and released Friday.Harris told police the suspect was a black man in his mid-30s andwas about 5-foot-6 and 140 pounds.No suspects after fatal East End shootingA man was found shot to death in a bullet-riddled car inCharleston's East End.Omar G. Archer, 19, was found about 4 a.m. Sunday in a rental carin the parking lot of Simpson Memorial United Methodist Church onthecorner of Shrewsbury and Christopher streets, said Lt. Jerry Pauleyof the Charleston Police Department.Pauley said multiple shots were fired into the car by someonestanding just outside the car, leaving bullet holes scattered alongthe driver's side door.Archer, who was from New York but had been living in Charleston,had been shot at least once in the head, Pauley said.Friends of the victim discovered his body about an hour after theshooting, Pauley said.Pauley said police do not have any suspects in the shooting.Body identified as Cleveland manCUNARD - A body found last month in Fayette County has beenidentified as a Cleveland man who was reported missing more than twomonths ago.A spokesman from the Fayette County Sheriff's Department saidDavid Williams' body was discovered May 23 on the bank of the NewRiver near Cunard.Williams, 30, was reported missing to the Cleveland PoliceDepartment April 8, he said.The cause of death is still unknown, but the Fayette CountySheriff's Department is continuing its investigation.Raleigh County boy falls from moving carCLEAR CREEK - A 12-year-old boy was in serious condition todayafter falling off the trunk of a moving car.Jeffrey Carpenter was flown to Charleston Area Medical CenterSunday, where he was in the intensive care unit in seriouscondition,hospital spokesman Gary Chernenko said today.Carpenter was riding on the trunk of a car driven by Robert L.Workman, 22, of Clear Creek, said Raleigh County Sheriff's DeputyL.D. Lilly.It was not clear Sunday whether the boy fell or jumped from themoving vehicle.Charges against Workman are pending, Lilly said.State man dies under Md. trainMARTINSBURG - A West Virginia man was struck and killed by aNorfolk Southern train in Maryland.Russell Anthony Bergeron, 24, of Martinsburg died Saturday afterbeing hit by the train in Sharpsburg, Md., police said.Witnesses told authorities Bergeron was sitting on one of therails with his shirt pulled over his head before the accidentoccurred.The train's engineer said he tried to stop, but Bergeron did notrespond to the train's warning whistle.The Washington County, Md., Sheriff's Department is investigating.
